Titanium is both strong and lightweight. Compared to steel, it weighs approximately 56% as much! It is ideal for the motorcycle industry. Titanium is corrosion free, even in the presence of salt, which makes it easier not to worry about riding areas. It is also scratch resistant for those who carry a bottle of touch-up paint on hand!

A recent development within the motorcycle industry is the Ducati Monster S4RS. The world’s first titanium motorcycle frame was built by Randy Martin and is called ‘Mostro Della Strada’; Monster of the Road. The frame uses larger diameter tubing than the original frame. The original frame weighed 28 pounds, whereas the titanium frame came in at an amazing 15 pounds!

The initial cost is a little higher for titanium made products, but in the long run is worth it. The upfront costs are recovered due to zero replacement cost caused by corrosion. Titanium is definitely an investment worth making as motorcycle owners are constantly trying to reduce the overall weight and increase the performance of the bike.
